Community Housing has two more houses nearing completion
New Albany Community Housing is working hard on two more new homes to be built and sold to first time homebuyers by the end of the year. The houses are 1,300-square foot, two-story, three-bedroom houses that will be next to each other at 1413 and 1415 South Street. The houses feature a full front porch, large living room with a vaulted ceiling, two full bathrooms and lots of windows and closet space. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a laundry room and a bonus room for a play or study area. The all-electric homes are fully insulated to be economical and energy efficient. A similar house is nearing completion at 708 Culbertson Avenue.
The homes will be sold at substantial discounts through a grant from Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority and HUD. The program also helps buyers find additional downpayment assistance and low mortgage rates through government programs.
To qualify, buyers will enroll in Community Housing’s free Homebuyer Education program, which features both credit & budgeting and first time homeowner classes, as well as one-on-one financial counseling. The classes are offered at various times to accommodate the family’s schedules.
Community Housing is also developing a 25-home project utilizing homes donated by Floyd Memorial Hospital and other donors. These houses are also being offered at substantial discounts to families in the program. Call 945-1866 for information and to enroll.
